Overall with Extras:
Director Al Adamson had originally filmed a movie called "Echo Of Terror" in 1964.
A film that had never been released. It was a film dealing with jewel robbers. Al and his partner Sam Sherman had tried to find a distributor for this film but had no luck.
They finally met up with Allied Artist corporation, who wanted Sci-Fi/Horror films for television exhibition . Addamson and Sherman decided to add additional scenes and incorporate them into "Echo Of Terror" changing the title to, "The Man With The Synthetic Brain". The film became a success on independent television and gave Sherman the idea to release the film theatrically. Hence it's new name "Blood Of Ghastly Horror" .
The film makers knew that their final product was a mess. It was choppy and confusing and I have to strongly agree on this one.
So the film basically was released as an added filler attraction to main features at grindhouse and drive-in venues.
The film begins with re-shot footage of a zombie like creature attacking and murdering three people. Followed by a cut to a police station with a box delivered containing a decapitated head inside. Then to a scene that makes no connection at all as it transforms into the original film "Echo Of Terror".
Jewel robbers who appear looking more like surgeons with green playtex gloves are taking jewels out of file cabinets, while a woman sits on the floor tied up and gagged. Then the next scene cuts to my favorite confusing scene of a woman driving around looking for something...what? We never know. Then back to the robbers again running up stairs to atop of a buildings roof top. There Director Addamson makes a quick appearance and he is instantly gunned down.
Next we see a little girl who picks up a necklace off the street and studies it. Whats going on???? Confused yet? I was.

In hopes of some sort of plot, John Carradine pops up. He plays an evil doctor and jolts some electros into a mans head. Now the doctor's victim has become a serial killer on the loose.
The zombie creature makes another appearance about an hour later then a cut to people running around a mountain.
There were three versions of this mess cut into one. Another title was called "Psycho A Go Go" where they had thrown in some musical numbers. Unfortunatley no musical sequences are on this DVD version. This movie is so bad that musical numbers hopefully would have added more extra fun to it.
As Sam Sherman said in his very good audio commentary for "Ghastly Horror" "What is this all about?" "If anyone knows whats going on please write..." Even he seemed lost viewing this.
This film was shot in different aspect ratios, though the film used for this DVD edition seems to be from a 2:85.1 source. It is presented in full frame. I don't believe that the pan and scan process was used. What you see is the center of the film image. So you'll see a half of a persons head to actions happening off the screen. It does get very distracting. Sherman had stated in his commentary that he was surprised that any footage still remained. So i guess this sums it up.
Troma has included some nice extras on this DVD to make up for this "Horror"! And what a "Horror" it is.
An audio commentary by Al Addamson's partner Sam Sherman, that was very informative of Al Addamson and humorous at the same time. I forgave the film after listening to this.
A Documentary called "Producing Shlock".
This documentary discusses Addamson's other film works. I found very good, though wished that it was a little longer.
Trailers for "Blood Of Ghastly Horror", one theatrical and one T.V. spot.
Trailers for other Addamson films.
Behind the Scenes Photos.
I recommend this DVD to anyone who is a fan of this genre, just for commentary and documentary alone. In my opinion this is a mindless movie that you do not need paying attention to. Do the dishes...vacum the floor..paint the walls...or play it at a party as a visual to music..It doesn't make a difference. You will be lost if you watch it so don't even try and figure this one out. Thinking about it, it was somewhat fun with funny looking characters. In conclusion, "Plan 9 From Outer Space" may be the best of the worst B movies. But this is the worst of the worst B movies I have seen.
