The once quiet and peaceful town of Galen, New England is suddenly shattered when a series of homicidal rapes begin occurring. Dr.Sam Cordell (Cassavettes), a newly arrived surgeon and pathologist lends a hand to the veteran police chief Hank Walden (Ireland) in trying to solve these disturbing and strange crimes.
Meanwhile, the Doctor's daughter Jenny begins to tell her father about her boyfriend Tim Galen's recurring nightmares that seem to resemble the gruesome murders of this once peaceful town.
Upon his investigation, Dr. Cordell stumbles upon an ancient book that tells him of The Incubus. A demon that takes many forms and ravishes women in their nightmares. While reading he also learns that The Incubus and Succubus are demons that when they appear to men, they can be sexually interchangeable.
The brutal murders continue as the Doctor begins to put the pieces of the puzzle together. The Doctor soon realizes that Tim's dreams can help him solve the mystery behind the murders.
What do you get when you take a slow paced movie, an actor who looks like he doesn't want to be there (Cassavettes), some brutal crime scenes and a cheesy surprise ending.......that's right you get “The Incubus”.
A Drive In flick by all means. A supernatural thriller with hardly any thrills and a big Super Duper let down at the end. I had seen this movie years ago and it was just as funny today as it was back then. Though not an entirely bad film, there was some suspense in the film but a big let down by the films end. Also I must say that there is a very strange relationship occurring between the Doctor and his daughter Jenny in the film that I found somewhat sick. Actor John Cassavettes may have needed some cash, maybe to buy a car like actress Betsy Palmer (Jason's Mom) did for the original"Friday the 13th", because he seemed so laid back and looked like he didn't want to be there at all.
A thumbs down to the Cast of the film...and a thumbs up for cheese and popcorn.
The Transfer used for this DVD release is probably as good as we'll ever see.
It contains noticeable grain through out and dull colors. But this all probably has to do with the films original elements involved.
The sound is presented in it's original mono soundtrack which is good though not great.
The only extra included is the films original Theatrical Trailer, which is better then the movie itself.
In the end "The Incubus" could have been a good horror flick but unfortunately falls flat, with a few laughs along the way.
