Hired by a rival fashion designer, Bobby Grady (Laughlin) is paid to follow designer Joanna Crane. As he waits outside of her lush extravagant apartment, the sun begins to set and out walks China Blue. Dressed in a tight blue dress and Blonde wig, she enters a cab and is off to walk the streets of L.A. in need of a trick. Once on the beat she finds herself face to face with a preacher man (Perkins) who promises to save her wicked soul. She brushes off the crazy preacher and picks up a trick for the night. Back in her hotel room she begins her kinky and erotic games of passion. Meanwhile Bobby is outside her window filming her every move. Turned on by her role playing and no sex at home with his frigid wife Amy (Potts), he finds himself aroused and obsessed with this mysterious creature of the night.
The next morning Bobby is asked by the Investigator if he has any information on Joanna. "No, Nothing at all", claims Bobby. When night falls out enters China again and Bobby is right behind her. Unable to control his passion he picks her up and she takes him into her hotel room. In a hot and steamy sex scene the two explode in a fiery release of passion that sends them both over the brink of desire and into a web of obsession. Unknown to them, they are being watched through a peep hole in the wall by the crazed preacher man who has become aroused over their love making and is dead set against this sinner and will do anything to stop the raging beast as she sins night after night. The next morning, Bobby arrives at Joanna s apartment and she is startled to see him there. Her cover has been blown. He now knows the secret of her double life. He is a man obsessed and she is a woman who is torn between her love she now feels for him and the passion she needs on the streets. Will she be saved by the Preacher Man and her soul set free? Will she find love with the only man who can satisfy her kinky desires and needs? Can one woman survive the most dangerous emotion of all? PASSION.
One of the most controversial movies from the 80's, directed by Ken Russell who directed such films as, "Altered States", "Tommy" and "Women in Love". An adult thriller that sends you on an emotional roller coaster ride through the kinky and shocking world of a good girl/bad girl played to the nine by Kathleen Turner. Compared to the low budget early 80's flick "Angel". In a world ruled by mad passion and holy obsession, Joanna's depraved double life threatens to explode.

Anchor Bay re-releases "Crimes of Passion" on DVD for a second time around in it's "unrated and uncensored" form. This time they deliver a beautifully stunning picture, with sharp details and vibrant colors. This movie never ever looked this good. The sound is presented in it's original mono soundtrack and is very good, With very clear and sharp sound.
The extras included in this edition contain: Deleted Scenes with or without a commentary track with writer/producer Barry Sandler. These scenes are interesting but it is very understandable to why they were removed. Within these scenes deleted are more character study focused on Amy Grady (Potts) and Bobby's best friend Donny Hopper (Davidson).
On the back of the DVD packaging Anchor Bay states that there are newly found scenes included into the film. These scenes include an extended love scene with Turner and Laughlin. A very graphic sex scene with Turner, a police officer and night stick. If i remember correctly these scenes have always been available on the old New World Unrated and newer Starmaker Home Video VHS versions.
Also included is an audio commentary by Ken Russell and Barry Sandler and the films theatrical trailer.
As for the movie, Turner gives a great performance as Joanna Cran/China Blue as well as the supporting cast. Anthony Perkins brought dark humor to his roll as the "Psycho" preacher wielding a sharp silver vibrator and his mission to save China Blue.
