A New Orleans housewife and mother has a torrid love affair behind her family's back. One day while with her lover she receives an alarming phone call that her son has drowned to death in the bathtub. Unknown to mom that her son was killed by no other then her troubled daughter, mom along with her lover rushes home. In a state of panic and speeding through the streets, a terrible car accident occurs leaving her lover decapitated. Unable to deal with the loss of her lover, she is committed to a mental institution.
Upon her release from the mental institution she is determined to continue and pursue her lustful and forbidden desires. The secret is kept hidden in the freezer and locked for only her perversion's. Has mom gone mad? Has she found a way to satisfy her lust, or is sexual depravity all in the HEAD? Lamberto Bava makes his directing debut in Macabre (also known as frozen terror). An italian horror master who later directed such classic shockers as "Demons", "Demons 2", and "A Blade in the Dark". The son of the great Mario Bava, Lamberto has a unique and cinematic vision that make all his films suspenseful and AG. "Macabre", is a sick story with a twist of humor, like the fact that it takes place in New Orleans dubbed by italian actors and filmed in Italy. The location shots were filmed in New Orleans though. Now Available on DVD by Anchor Bay Entertainment. Presented in a Widescreen Presentation enhanced for 16x9 tv's. The picture is very good but not pristine. There is a considerable amount of grain and washed out color, but considering this films age it's probably the best it will get. The disc also contains, "A Head Of Horror:Lamerto Bava on Macabre" a short interview with the director subtitled in english. This was very interesting as well as amusing, Theatrical Trailer and Lamberto Bava Bio.

The shocking thriller from director Lamberto Bava who had brought us such films as, "Macabre", "Demons", and the writer of "City of the Living Dead" and "The Beyond". Son of the great director Mario Bava, Lamberto Bava had followed the path of his father in the genre of mystify thrillers and a dash of pure horror in his fabulous recipe. Written by Dardano Sacchetti, this italian shocker caused controversy throughout Europe due to its scenes of excessive violence.
The story begins with Bruno (Occhipinti), who is hired to compose the music for a new horror film and rents an isolated villa to concentrate on his work. All the guests who come to visit him are suddenly murdered. All we see is a woman's shoe and her shadow as she holds the blade in her hand and slaughters these women to death. Brutal Death scenes make this film so much more intense. A knife is stabbed into the hand of a woman as a bag is wrapped around her face and her face is beaten to death on the edge of the bathroom sink. Violent? Yes! A shocking brutal death with more to follow. Bruno suddenly finds himself obsessed with solving these savage crimes. Is a clue to the killers identity hidden within the film itself, or is there a more horrifying secret lurking deep in the dark?
Now on DVD from Anchor Bay Entertainment, "A Blade in the Dark" has been transferred from original vault materials and is now presented completely uncut and uncensored. Presented in a Widescreen Presentation (1.85:1) enhanced for 16x9 TV's. The picture quality was excellent, The film never look this good. The colors and black level was just perfect for this DVD. There is some noticeable grain but like again "Macabre" due to it's age this is the best we'll ever see this film and believe me it's very good.
Included is Behind the Blade with Director Lamberto Bava and writer Dardano Sacchetti. An amusing discussion on how after he had made "Macabre" he wanted to do a film with more shock appeal to please the audience and the Theatrical Trailer along with Talent Bios.
